Dermot Hamill (14) demonstrated that practice, dedication and a fair degree of skill can coalesce into a round to remember. But for the Road Hole, Hamill could have signed for a wonderful one over par round. His prodigious 22 outward points were surpassed with an absolutely outstanding inward 24. Hence, Hamill amassed an amazing 46 winning points.

With just 20 Stableford scores to count on each half, the strategy was simple enough on the earlier holes, but the pressure built as choices made could not be retrospectively amended. Litton logged 25 points over ten ten holes. O’Mahony did the same, but over one more hole. McMahon was the MVP and carded 30 on twelve holes, enabling Hamill to bring home the bacon with the final 17 of their 97 winning points.

38 children or grandchildren of members much enjoyed the complimentary kids’ Christmas Party hosted by former club president Steve McGowan, Santa and his helpers at Castletown Golf Club midweek. The staff at the newly named Salt & Swing Cafe and Bar played a giant part by supplying ‘scrumdiddlyumptious’ faire and fizzy pop.

The lady captain’s drive-in took place on Sunday and Belinda Pilling’s drive was hampered by a floppy hat, which refused to stay in place, and a tinsel wrapped club shaft which was far from aerodynamic. Consequently, Brigette Thomas’s perceptive, pessimistic prediction came closest to the distance driven.

Steven Glynn (17) stormed into an early lead but was blown off-course on the Road Hole. Glynn breezed back with four nett birdies in a row and could afford a nil pointer on the 17th and still win by two Stableford points with ‘naughty-40’.

Castletown Golf Club’s AGM took place at the newly named ‘Salt & Swing Golf Bar’ at Langness on Saturday afternoon. All nominations were passed unanimously. The new captains, Richard Dunn and Belinda Pilling promised to uphold the values inscribed on the batons passed to them by the outgoing captain. Those values being: Protect – Include – Progress – Engage.
