Gareth Morris (3) started as he hoped to continue, with a birdie, and added another, a four-pointer, on the Road Hole. Only three bogeys corrupted his card, so Morris danced round in just one over par for 31 winning points. This hoisted him to fourth place in the Winter League on 33 placement points, and also fourth in the gross eclectic at seven under par on 65.

With a hesitant backswing and a putting stroke one blink away from a yip, Ian Souter (8) clipped it close enough, often enough, to notch-up eight pars and seven bogeys. Despite missing three short shockers, Souter’s nifty nett birdies on the 2nd, 15th and, most crucially, the 18th, landed him the loot, plus he topped division two.

Range guru’ Jonathan Potts (8) was in fine form, racing round in one over par on all but the three holes which playing partner Mark Todd (1) completed first with two pars and a birdie. Subsequently, the winning pair ended two ahead of the field on 36 points.

Winning by a healthy margin of three points, Neil Cartwright, Terry Ditchfield, Alan Rowe and John Ledwidge only fell below par on one hole, the 17th. Having bagged birdies on six holes and nett birdies on four more, they stacked up 67 Stableford points, seven better than par. Ditchfield and Rowe shared the most valuable player accolade, both contributing 20 points apiece.

Early starter Keith Featherstone (9) squeezed in ten pars and three nett pars in his fine five over par round. This was good enough to win the latest round of the Winter League in a three-way countback with 33 Stableford points accumulated over the 15-hole course.

Scoring eight birdies plus five nett birdies between them, the eventual winners, Guy Pickard, Stuart Campbell, Frankie Doherty and Andy Saunders managed to line them up on five occasions. Those resulting 9-pointers, two on the back-nine, contributed just over half their total score and compensated for the five holes where they dovetailed disappointingly.
