POETRY IN MOTION – CHRIS DUNN WINS THE VICE-CAPTAIN’S TROPHY

Poetry it’s true, is something I’m inclined to do. So, with Castletown Golf Club results now in, my challenge is to report on those that win. Now, if I can do it in rhyme, I for one would think it fine. Saturday was vice captain’s day, and Phil Games had a trophy to give away.

With a runaway winner, there’s only one. This time it was the wily Christopher Dunn. A four-pointer birdie and pars times eight, Dunn more than punched his weight. A tremendous two over at the turn, Dunn had spare shots to spurn. Winning the Stableford with 41, a fine achievement for Mr.Dunn. Oh, and by the way, there were only 16 holes in play.

Coming second with 38, John Ledwidge was fast out the gate. Three birdies over the first seven, Ledwidge really was in heaven. Sadly, his back-seven turned to six, with an N/R he couldn’t fix.

Then, computation became hard, as three fellows 37 did card. Countback favoured Richard Wild, after his superior 17 was duly filed. Though in with a shout, both Mel Todd and Peter Robertson lost out. Sixth-placed David Laughlin on 36 was also out of the mix.

Duncan Donald had a surprise, his 35 took the division one prize. Next, Neil Harris and Alan Rowe were in line for placement dough. Respectively, they scored 34 and 33.

13 twos shared the spoils, the most notable of which were Tom Doyle’s. NTP on the 16th adding gloss to a 7th hole amazing albatross. After a close tussle other NTP winners were Stephen Boyd and Ernie Russell.

Four holes were out of play for the Yellow-sponsored competition on Wednesday. Off (44), recuperating golfer Jo Duncan must expect to chunk-some. But winning the Stephen Trophy with 31, Duncan’s success was clearly fun.

Two late blobs she will rue, but Duncan -shown above- still topped division two.

Countback king, Guy Pickard’s 31 topped the lot. At three over par, he was in the slot. On 30, Heather McKenna filched the final podium place, one ahead of David Allan which is no disgrace. Down in ninth and tenth position, Paul Russett and Claire Walker headed the remaining division two opposition.

Ramsey Crookall Sunday series winner Graham Harris stepped in with 39 points before dinner. Hard on his heals, course owner Philip Vermeulen shot 38. It included a great run, which came too late. Alex Holt N/R’d the 10th, but with 37 his game goes from strength to strength.

This coming Saturday is President’s Day. Barry Watts just wanted to say, he hopes you’ll all come along and play.
