Sustained showers stopped Saturday’s Suntera sponsored series medal which has now been postponed until next week. Having meddled with the medal, the replacement club sponsored Stableford also suffered and was consequentially cancelled as only fifteen fellows filed a soggy score, one of which beat his handicap.
Professional problem solver Martin Kennaugh (12) seemed to find the answer. His 'winning' 38 points came from 17 scoring holes, ten of which he parred. The other seven were bogeyed. Only the 9th created a conundrum for Kennaugh, a slippery seven corrupting his card.
Third last Saturday, Oli Steriopulos (11) went one better this week. Beginning with a birdie, Suntera’s head of project management office added another on the 12th. Three double bogeys on shot-holes meant Steriopulos suffered no blobs in his 35 points.
Two were tied for third on 34. Mark Haywood (9) finished with a nett birdie, but it was Chris Till (14) who purloined the final podium place despite an N/R on the ‘gully-ball’ 18th.
Lobsterman Robert Quine (18) netted 36 points from just fifteen scoring holes to land the loot in the Yellow-sponsored midweek mixed Stableford. Having started with three pars, Quine’s highlight was a four-pointer birdie on the 17th.
Paul Kennedy (17) came second on 35 with Simon Murray (6) in third with 33 points. Former club champion Lynda Simpson (11) was the first lady home with 29 points.
New junior member Hugo Hayata (29) beat his dad, Mitz, by 12 points to win the Ramsey Crookall sponsored Sunday series second round with 43 points. Last week’s winner, Gwendolyn (Gigi) Fisk (27), was second with 40 points, her mum, Linda was seventh on 33. Josh Brain (15) snatched third from Mark Beresford (16). They both bagged 37 points, but Brain drained his putts for a better back-nine.
Talking of which, in a quest to hone his already impressive short-game, Karl Cormode (shown above) was spotted having an advanced putting session with New Generation Golf instructor Steve Hamer. Lessons, including the Aimpoint putting system can be booked via the pro-shop on 822211 or directly with Steve by emailing sh@newgenerationgolf.co.uk
